How do I know when to use the Vegetative recipe or the Bloom recipe

Our Vegetative recipes are used when your plants are growing only leaves, stems and roots, and then you should begin to feed our Bloom recipe when your plant begins to grow fruit or flowers.

A crop like a tomato would require both recipes, Vegetative while its growing leaves, and Bloom while it is growing its tomatoes.

We also have feeding schedules on our menu listing that help you decide how much and when to fee your plants

How do I mix my liquid nutrients?

1. Fill your reservoir or watering can with water

2. Measure nutrients from your A solutions and deposit them into your reservoir

3. Use a clean tool to measure your B nutrients, then add them into your reservoir

4. Mix thoroughly for 10 seconds

5. Apply to your plants as needed

***DO NOT USE THE SAME MEASURING TOOL FOR BOTH A & B PRODUCTS - this can cause your nutrient solution to precipitate and form solids. However, once your nutrients are diluted together and mixed in water, they should not form solids for months***

Do rhize nutrients work well with house plants, herbs and vegetables?

They certainly do! In general, use our Bloom products when your plants are fruiting or flowering, and Vegetative products for general plant growth

What is VPD

VPD = vapor pressure deficit

VPD is a unit of measurement of the relationship between temperature and humidity. There are great charts that can quickly be pulled up with a Google search that will show you the optimal range that your plant should be in to effectively be transpiring (exhaling humidity). Transpiration is important for photosynthesis and nutrient absorption - two actions that directly increase crop production

How do I know how much nutrients to use and when?

Refer to the nutrient feed charts that you find by clicking "Feeding Schedules" at the top of your screen in the Main Menu

How do I know if my plant requires light, standard or heavy feeding?

Most house plants use the light feeding chart

If you are growing a new strain/cultivar, begin with intermediate or standard feeding charts and observe.

It is usually a good sign to feed more if your plant is not a lush green and exhibits a bit of yellowing on lower leaves.

You should also check your 'runoff' - if the runoff EC/ppms are much lower than the nutrient solution that you have been using as feed, your plant is hungry for more and you can increase to a higher concentration of nutrients

What should I do if my runoff EC or ppms are higher than the nutrient solution that I am I'm feeding my plants?

This means that your plant is getting more nutrients that it needs and minerals are collecting in your rhizosphere (root zone).

You should flush your soil or grow medium immediately with clear water until your EC runoff values is 0.1.

If you ever notice that your runoff EC/ppms are higher than your feed, it's a good indication that you need to increase the frequency that you flush your root zone, or reduce the concentration of your feeding.

What does 'flush' mean?

It is an drenching of your soil with water that contains very little or no nutrients. It is a technique used to reset your soil/grow medium's mineral/nutrient content to make sure that there is not an over accumulation of minerals, or too much of an individual mineral that will cause absorption imbalances.

***It is important that your medium has the ability to drain out of the bottom***

What EC/ppm and pH meter do you recommend using?

Bluelab products tend to be very reliable. Make sure that they are calibrated regularly.

What pH should my nutrient solution be before feeding my plants?

Your pH should not be lower than 5.8 or above 6.4 If this is the case, it is recommended to use pH up or down to fall within these parameters.

How many liters of product do your 11.34kg bags make?

Our 15kg bags create between 45-51L of product, depending on which ingredient you are mixing.

Do your 11.34kg products expire?

They do not! We do recommend that they are stored in a cool dry area.
