NHP Requirements

All Natural Health Products (NHPs) in Canada need a product license before being sold.

A product licence Natural Products Number (NPN) is required to sell a natural health product whether the product is made in Canada or imported for sell into Canada.

All products that were manufactured, packaged, labeled, or imported must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and site license requirements of the regulations. Health Canada requires detailed information about the medicinal ingredients, source, potency, non-medicinal ingredients, and recommended use before they will issue a license.
