Scott's Experience
Scott’s interest in horticulture started in his early 20’s while on a break from university he discovered WWOOF’ing and the opportunity to travel to, learn and work on different organic farms. He soon became passionate about food security and all aspects of horticulture and has tended his own vegetable garden for twenty years. From institutionalized IPM and turf management practices, to the managing of large landscape installations and maintenance crews, his interest in horticulture has led to him working in all capacities within the landscape horticulture and small scale farming industries. He currently manages a 3/4 acre vegetable garden, greenhouse, small orchard and vineyard with food security being the primary focus of production.
As a lifelong advocate for cannabis, Scott has also gained extensive experience in the legacy cannabis market. Starting in the early 2000’s he has worked on various medium and large scale outdoor legacy and
medical cannabis farms until eventually settling in Nova Scotia and starting his own legacy grow. With a focus on prevention and good production practices he is experienced with IPM for cannabis and has battled many pests and pathogens. As an ACMPR grower, Scott has grown indoors and out and has been particularly passionate about experimenting with hoop houses and outdoor light deprivation techniques as a way to grow higher quality photoperiod cannabis than can be typically grown outdoors in Nova Scotia. He has also been selecting and breeding his own varieties in an attempt to eventually create inbred photoperiod lines that are more resistant to molds and fungus and will thrive in more northern climates.
Scott is a graduate of Dalhousie’s Cannabis Production and Management course designed by RHIZE’s founder Alex Buckley and holds numerous other horticultural trade certificates and licenses.
